Meredith Vieira (57) will walk away from the NBC morning show when her contract expires in September, TV Guide reports.

The NBC is doing everything they can to convince Meredith Vieira to stay, a source familiar with Vieira's contract discussions tells TV Guide. NBC, for the record, remained tight-lipped, saying only.

The Today show anchors are currently under contract and firmly in place.

Within days of each other both Meredith Vieira and Katie Couric may have a new post by next year.

Katie Couric Leaving Her Post At_ CBS Evening News

Katie Couric era at "CBS Evening News" was drawing to a close, now Couric is leaving her post, less than five years after becoming the first woman to anchor a network evening newscast on her own, the AP reported on Sunday. No departure date has been set.

Katie has not officially announced what her next move will be, but her contract expires in early June, and she is expected to launch a syndicated talk show in 2012. Meanwhile, she has been in talks with NBC, ABC and CBS, as well as Jeff Zucker, the ex-chief executive of NBCUniversal, who produced NBC's 'Today' when Couric co-anchored the show.

There had been speculation that Couric was not as happy anchoring the evening news as she was co-anchoring 'Today'. Ratings for all network newscasts have declined sharply over the last decade while the morning shows have remained profitable. 'CBS Evening News' is currently in third place in the ratings, behind leader Brian Williams at NBC's 'Nightly News' and Diane Sawyer at ABC's 'World News'.




A CBS News representative said on monday, We're having ongoing discussions with Katie Couric. We have no announcements to make at this time. Until we do, we will continue to decline comment on rumor and speculation.

Katie Couric's rep Matthew Hiltzik declined to comment.

Katie Couric Offered To Become A regular Correspondent On 60 Minutes Job

Katie Couric has been offered the chance to become a regular correspondent on '60 Minutes'. Katie Couric, the American news anchor who is stepping down from her evening job on Cbs, has been offered to chance to join '60 Minutes' as a regular correspondent, reports the New York Post.

A regular spot on the Sunday night show is reportedly part of the package being offered to Couric if she'll agree to stay and front a daytime talk show for Cbs. Her current deal with the network expires in June 2011.

Katie began producing interviews and behind-the-scenes stories for '60 Minutes' when the program attempted to branch out from its 22-minute evening newscast and now the show's bosses are keen to offer the 54-year-old something permanent.

A spokesman for Couric last night declined to comment on the specifics of the offer from '60 Minutes', but did say, Katie's on vacation this week. Hopefully, the speculation about Katie can take a week off, too.


Meanwhile, the rumours concerning Katie Couric's 'Evening News' successor have begun to circulate, with '60 Minutes' own Scott Pelley emerging as the possible frontrunner.

Katie Couric Quite Happy To Lend A Hand

Anchor reportedly helped IAC Chairman and Senior Executive Barry Diller during a snow covered morning, thursday in New York City.

Katie Couric says she pushed Barry’s stuck Maserati out of the snow in Central Park on her way to work.

She said, we got out of the car and we were just making fun of him, taking pictures.

Katie admits telling Diller, I guess you just had to take your Maserati out for a spin.

She added, all three of us tried to push it backwards so he could move the car forward. Those cars are heavy.

I just thought it was funny. Only in New York.

Katie recently addressed rumors she was heading to back the Today show.
