The 64-year-old, Susan Lucci has played the character 'Erica Kane' since the 1970's but Abc recently decided to pull the plug on the much-loved soap opera.

Reacting to news of the cancellation, Lucci looked back fondly, saying, It's been a fantastic journey. I loved playing Erica Kane and working with show creator Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I'm looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.

Susan Lucci's character 'Erica' has been married a total of 10 times, threatened suicide, was accused of murder and subsequently became a fugitive. She also cheated on one of her husband's with his brother, served time in prison for kidnapping, beat an addiction to prescription drugs and stabbed another husband after hallucinating that he was a rapist.

In 1991, Lucci was honoured with a Daytime Emmy Award for the role on the show. Grey's Anatomy actress Leven Rambin, who played the dual role of step-sisters 'Lily' and 'Ava' on 'All My Children', spoke to the U.S. Magazine about her disappointment at the cancellation, saying, It truly saddens me to see such an iconic part of American television come to an end.

I grew up watching the show with my mother and grandmother, and we so enjoyed watching our beloved characters day after day for many years.

The actress Susan Lucci competed in season seven of Dancing With The Stars with professional partner Tony Dovolani. Lucci eventually finished sixth in the competition.
